Tour Your Hometown: Kelly of Where in the World
Today’s Tour Your Hometown is a special edition by Kelly of Where in the World! Her hometown is in the beautiful Fort Lauderdale, Florida, which happens to be the 2015 TBEX North America destination!
1. For starters, where is your current hometown and how long have you lived there?
I grew up in the always sunny Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I lived there for 18 years before moving for university and then Australia after graduation.
2. For many people, travel is not always feasible or desirable all year round. How do you make the most of your hometown when you are not traveling?
Well, lucky for me, Fort Lauderdale is a major tourist destination for people from all over the world. Between the beaches, fishing, boating, nightlife and 365 days of sunshine, it makes for a great place for those with wanderlust to stay permanently.
3. What is the most creative technique you use to save up for your travels while you are at home?
I don’t know if it’s necessarily creative, but I would honestly take any job that was thrown at me. My favorite would be chauffeuring my Dad and his friends around after their Sunday Golf down to the Hard Rock Casino.
4. What is the best part of your hometown that other visitors should know about?
People think Fort Lauderdale and either think of old people or crazy spring break ragers – two completely different concepts… Sure, Fort Lauderdale is a really big area that encompasses many different neighborhoods, but it’s such a close community of people. So many families have grown up there since the 50s and 60s, and their kids and grandkids and great grandkids all live there. The more time I spend apart from my hometown, the more I realize how amazing it really is.
5. Finally, we can’t forget about the food! Where is your favorite place to eat in your hometown and why?
Ahh thats the toughest question! I always go with Laspadas. It will hands down be the best damn sub you’ll ever eat. I’d have to say the most perfect day would be going to Laspadas, heading down to the beach and enjoying the sub with friends in the sand. Sounds weird, but it always reminds me of High School 🙂
