Weekend at Winter Park Mountain Lodge

In order to take advantage of opening weekend at Winter Park, Brandon and I had the pleasure of staying at the Winter Park Mountain Lodge where we enjoyed the snowy weather and hit the slopes for a fun-filled snowboarding skiing trip! Come back next week to see why my attempt at snowboarding didn’t go over so well.

Getting There

My most important advice when coming to Winter Park is try to plan around the weather. I cannot stress this enough. Brandon and I arrived on Friday night, just barely making it through the snow storm. All was going well on the drive from Boulder to Winter Park, until about the last 20 miles when the snow started coming down thick. The last 20 miles happen to be mainly curvy, mountain roads that became very slick on our uphill journey. If you can, arrive when it is still light outside to avoid having to take on the icy roads in the pitch black darkness. Finally, if you can take a car that has four-wheel drive, do it! My little Toyota Camry is a trooper, but we sure could have used a better equipped vehicle to make it safely to our destination.

The Hotel

We arrived to a lovely mountain view room that was very clean and was equipped with everything we needed. We were happy to have a mini fridge in the room as we were thinking ahead and brought some snacks and lunch meat to make sandwiches rather than buying a lunch. There was also free wifi included, which is always a perk! They offer free breakfast, which is a must to start your day if you are planning on hitting the slopes all day.

If you are visiting in the winter you are likely planning on heading out to do some skiing or snowboarding. The hotel has a free shuttle service that picks up right at the front entrance and is only a few minutes to get to the slopes. Quick and convenient!

The staff was also very friendly and welcoming when we arrived. Despite the fact that there was an entire fraternity spending the weekend at the hotel, they made sure we were far from their rowdiness and, I must say, we had a nice quiet room up on the 5th floor!

Other Perks

The hotel has an indoor pool and two hot tubs, which were very refreshing after a long day of skiing or snowboarding! Brandon and I came to relax here after a full day of snowboarding lessons. The hot tub sure felt great since pretty much every inch of my body was feeling sore!

One highlight of the hotel is Moffat Station, their restaurant and microbrewery. After our rough drive in on Friday, of course we headed to the bar to have some freshly brewed beers. The Oktoberfest was my favorite – typical of me to always choose the seasonal beers that I can’t have all year round! But it’s definitely worth stopping in for a drink or two, and grab a bite to eat. Go with the chili cheese fries for a great starter!

Last but not least, the hotel has their very own ski shop right in the main lobby. If you don’t want to worry about waiting in long lines at Winter Park Ski Resort, this is a great option for rentals!

If you’re considering a Colorado ski trip any time soon, Winter Park Mountain Lodge is a great place to stay! Although we did spend most of our time out on the slopes, it was certainly nice coming back to a clean and cozy hotel room for the night!

Please note that we were hosted during our stay at a discounted media rate, however, this did not influence my review of this hotel. I don’t know how to ski, but for a view like that and an awesome hot tub, I wouldn’t mind learning. 😉

Haha skiings not too bad! It was the snowboarding that was difficult 🙂 But either way, warming up in a hot tub at the end of the day and looking out over the beautiful view of the slopes every morning makes it totally worth it!

It looks like a cozy place! I think it’s been too long since I was on a ski trip.

I know how scary driving in a bad snowstorm can be! Glad you guys were safe and had a fun trip! That hot tub definitely looks needed after being active outdoors in the cold all day!

Thanks Rachel, it was scary but thankfully there were not many cars on the road so that helped! The hot tub was a perfect touch to top off the weekend 🙂

Beautiful review of the Winter Park Mountain Lodge. It seems that you already got some pretty good snow up there. Can you send some our way, to California? We need it badly.
