In order to take advantage of opening weekend at Winter Park, Brandon and I had the pleasure of staying at the Winter Park Mountain Lodge where we enjoyed the snowy weather and hit the slopes for a fun-filled
snowboarding skiing trip! Come back next week to see why my attempt at snowboarding didn’t go over so well.
My most important advice when coming to Winter Park is try to plan around the weather. I cannot stress this enough. Brandon and I arrived on Friday night, just barely making it through the snow storm. All was going well on the drive from Boulder to Winter Park, until about the last 20 miles when the snow started coming down thick. The last 20 miles happen to be mainly curvy, mountain roads that became very slick on our uphill journey. If you can, arrive when it is still light outside to avoid having to take on the icy roads in the pitch black darkness. Finally, if you can take a car that has four-wheel drive, do it! My little Toyota Camry is a trooper, but we sure could have used a better equipped vehicle to make it safely to our destination.
If you are visiting in the winter you are likely planning on heading out to do some skiing or snowboarding. The hotel has a free shuttle service that picks up right at the front entrance and is only a few minutes to get to the slopes. Quick and convenient!
The staff was also very friendly and welcoming when we arrived. Despite the fact that there was an entire fraternity spending the weekend at the hotel, they made sure we were far from their rowdiness and, I must say, we had a nice quiet room up on the 5th floor!
Please note that we were hosted during our stay at a discounted media rate, however, this did not influence my review of this hotel. What an awesome looking hotel and that hot tub looks amazing. I wouldn’t mind taking a dip right now. Love the new header too!

I don’t know how to ski, but for a view like that and an awesome hot tub, I wouldn’t mind learning. 😉

Haha skiings not too bad! It was the snowboarding that was difficult 🙂 But either way, warming up in a hot tub at the end of the day and looking out over the beautiful view of the slopes every morning makes it totally worth it!

It looks like a cozy place! I think it’s been too long since I was on a ski trip.

It was very cozy! That’s the best kind of place to stay when on a ski trip 🙂 Thanks for stopping by Jess!

I know how scary driving in a bad snowstorm can be! Glad you guys were safe and had a fun trip! That hot tub definitely looks needed after being active outdoors in the cold all day!

Thanks Rachel, it was scary but thankfully there were not many cars on the road so that helped! The hot tub was a perfect touch to top off the weekend 🙂

Beautiful review of the Winter Park Mountain Lodge. It seems that you already got some pretty good snow up there. Can you send some our way, to California? We need it badly.

Thanks Anda, we got quite a bit of snow! Had planned on doing more skiing today except that it was back up to 60 degrees in Boulder.. haha such crazy weather! I’d be happy to send some snow your way when it comes back around 🙂
