Travel Moments:
Kaspars and Una of We Are From Latvia

December 8, 2013. India. We have been cycling across India for almost 2 months, and in a few days we are planning to arrive in Goa, to spend a month living in an apartment by the ocean. The sun is setting. We are reaching the top of the mountain. And we are exhausted. But the closest town is still some 20 kilometers away, down the hill.

It has been a very long day. We left Pune at sunrise. But few hours later, seeing that there are no places where to stay, we made a decision – we will cross Western Ghats today.

We are on the top of the mountain. It’s getting dark and there are not any streetlights. We stop for 5 minutes to prepare for the cycling in the night, and then we go again! Some minutes later it’s clear – it will take us at least 3 times longer as we would expect, because road quality is even worse than on the way up. It’s a mix of gravel and destroyed asphalt. We slowly continue our way down.

It’s completely dark. But still time after time we see the silhouettes of mountains surrounding us. And then…after some turn we see it. We see the next city from a distance. And this view is spectacular! With the city lights in complete darkness, with light pink horizon and stars in the night sky above us.

These are the moments we travel for!
